31 July 2009 - 10:02Ahh…summer time

I don’t really have an excuse for not posting lately. It’s summer and I am only working part time, so I should have time to keep up on my blog. It appears this summer that I have become quite lazy…well lazy for me that is. Actually, I have found a new addiction in playing the Sims…so I frequently am in Adam’s man cave. I am hoping this addiction will be over before school starts or I won’t get anything done this year.

The past few weekends Adam and I had been traveling up to Portland, Salem and Black Butte. We decided now it’s time to stay in Eugene for a while. Our roommates moved out a few weeks ago, so we are getting our house put back together. I have plans to decorate to guest room and guest bathroom in the next few weeks. Other than that, I am playing soccer, spending time with friends, having BBQs, having girls nights, playing with the Wii and working on maintaining the yard.

I have two more weeks of summer school, then I don’t need to report until August 31st. Adam is taking some time off and after summer school, we have 10 days with no work for either of us. We don’t have plans and don’t want any. We will just take one day at a time doing what we want to do.

So for now we are enjoying our summer immensely.

14 July 2009 - 6:44Summer School

Summer school is underway for me. I survived the first day with the typical first day fiascos, but nothing I couldn’t handle. People think I’m crazy for wanting to teach summer school. If I didn’t have something to do in the summer, I would go nuts. Plus, I love teaching and I enjoy working with new and different students. I still have a lot of summer for myself….as summer school is only half days Monday-Thursday for five weeks. Just enough to help the mortgage payments, but not enough that I lose all of my summer. A little bit of work and a lot of play…a good summer for me!

5 July 2009 - 17:28Fantastic Fourth

This year was the best 4th of July I can remember. Both our families came together at Adam’s parents in Salem for a wonderful celebration. This was my parent’s first trip to see the White’s house and property. Humberto, my sister’s boyfriend from Puerto Rico joined us as well. Humberto is a passionate and talented photographer who always has his camera in hand. His work is beautiful.

We started the evening with many delicious appetizers and margaritas, which I am apparently quite good at making. Well it’s more like I am good at follow directions on the mix. With so much food to eat, everyone chipped in and helped with the food prep…thank goodness there was lots of counter space for all of us to use. It was really cool to see everyone helping out with the dinner. We had a wonderful BBQ shish kabobs dinner with various salads and topped off with strawberry rhubarb crisp and s’mores for dessert. We drove about 10 minutes away from their property to watch the fireworks display put on by the city of Independence. It was a fantastic setting watching the fireworks and then seeing the reflection of the fireworks on the Willamette River below. It was a spectacular setting for the holiday!

My family drove back to Portland late that night, but Adam and I stayed the night. We woke up on Sunday morning and enjoyed a peaceful, relaxing morning drinking coffee and enjoying the nice weather. Life is good!
