This past weekend, Heidi and I packed up and headed out to Black Butte Ranch for the weekend. My parents bought a house there a few years back, and I like to go over there a few times a year to get away. I love the fact that you drive a little under 2 hours and you feel like you are in a whole different place. For those of you who have never been over to Black Butte, it’s much like Sunriver, but much quieter and less people. Truth be told, I like it much better.
Honestly, I wasn’t really excited to go initially, but I ended up having a great time. Between Heidi, her boyfriend Robert and I, we knocked back 3 1/2 bottles of wine, played a ‘assisted’ version of Trivial Pursuit, shopped in Bend, watched sports, went sledding in the snow, and I did some work. It was the perfect balance of being busy and relaxing. Plus, I got some cute clothes!
With all the snow, my concern was driving back with all the snow. There was almost a foot of snow on the Santiam Pass and Hwy 126 was icy. I have never driven in snow or used my chains, so this was going to be a first for me. We left around noon, and had to chain up about one mile onto Hwy 20. Never having chained up before, Heidi and I got out the instructions, and began to chain up. After trying a while, we decided to solicited the help of the ‘chain up lady’, which was going to cost me, but I was willing to pay. After she told us it would be a while, Heidi and I went back to work and got the chains on successfully! Thanks goodness Heidi was there. The Santiam Pass was gorgeous, and was not a problem. Hwy 126 was icy and was more problematic than first thought. It was a slow trip home, finally arriving in Springfield a little over 3 hours later. I was pretty proud of myself for driving in the snow, but I guess when I have an SUV I don’t have to worry as much.
Overall, it was a great weekend, but I excited to return home to Ginger and see that Eugene had been hit with a few inches of snow! Woot for snow!
